HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 22 (ACN) The current pandemic compels Cuban workers to celebrate the coming May Day in their workplaces and households; besides, the event will take into account the high number of workers involved in missions to fight COVID-19.
According to the secretary-general of the Cuban Trade Unions (CTC) in Havana, Eng. Alfredo Vázquez Pérez, these will be the main venues where people in the capital city will ratify their commitment to our economic battles and the validation of Task Ordering.
Vázquez stressed the vital importance of the voluntary works scheduled for April 24 and 25 in prioritized centers in charge of providing highly demanded goods and services related to Food, Industry, Agriculture, Science and Health, among other strategic fronts.
He urged workers’ collectives to come up with initiatives to decorate them with banners and allegorical symbols, including the use of propaganda and slogans as part of this celebration.
The Cuban newspaper Tribuna de La Habana reports that the date pays tribute to a number of historical events, such as the 62nd anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution, the six decades of the first defeat of Yankee imperialism in America, the 110th anniversary of the birth of the working class leader Lázaro Peña and the 95th anniversary of Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.
On May Day, starting at 10:00 a.m., there will also be a Twitter session at the CTC to salute International Workers' Day.
