Cuban FM: the Revolution allowed Cubans to enjoy their human rights

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 12 (ACN) The Cuban foreign ministry (MINREX by its Spanish acronym) stressed today that the Revolution has allowed Cubans to fully enjoy their human rights.

On Twitter, the foreign ministry expressed pride in the revolutionary work, which for the first time in the nation's history allowed its citizens to achieve these rights.

Among Cuba's results in this field, we highlight the free access to health and education services.

With some 97,000 doctors (one for every 116 inhabitants), Cuba has achieved a life expectancy of 78.45 years for its citizens, and has also eliminated 14 infectious diseases in the national territory.

In addition, the State devotes more than 20 % of its annual budget to education, despite the limitations of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. government.

Since November 2019, the National Program against Racism and Racial Discrimination, which aims to eliminate in the country any remains of this scourge, has been in force.

Another government program is the National Plan for the Advancement of Women, to continue promoting the advancement of Cuban women, beyond the achievements made in gender equality.

On April 5, the Director General in charge of the United States at MINREX, Carlos Fernandez de Cossio, in conversation with the U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Cuba, Timothy Zuniga-Brown, stressed that the Caribbean island enjoys international prestige in human rights.

He highlighted the results in their promotion and protection, as well as the country's solidarity support to the efforts of other developing nations to protect the rights of their people, and the tradition of cooperation with the UN mechanisms that are applied on a universal and non-discriminatory basis.

Cuba has been elected as a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2021-2023 term, and is party to 44 of the 61 international human rights conventions.
