Evo Morales congratulates Cuba’s progress with anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates

HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 11 (ACN) Evo Morales, leader of the ruling Movement Towards Socialism (MAS) and former president of Bolivia, congratulated today on Twitter Cuba’s progress with the production of anti-COVID-19 vaccine candidates, currently under development.

Morales pointed out that, despite the cruel U.S. blockade on Cuba, the island produced on an industrial scale a first batch of 150,000 Soberana 02 vaccines against COVID-19 and will soon enter a new phase (the third one) of clinical trials, which proves the country’s great vocation for saving lives.

The Cuban biopharmaceutical industry confirmed this week a first batch of 150,000 bulbs of Soberana 02, the most advanced national vaccine candidate against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

In a recent meeting between the government and Cuban scientists, the director of the Finlay Vaccine Institute, Vicente Vérez Bencomo, pointed out that the large-scale production will provide enough doses to carry out the third phase of this study and described as an important scientific-technological milestone the production of a second batch of the vaccine candidate.

In addition to Soberana 02, Cuba has three other vaccine candidates, Soberana 01, Mambisa and Abdala, to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
