Cuba highlights Non-Aligned Movement support in the fight against COVID-19

HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 7 (ACN) Cuban FM Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla highlighted today the support of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), in the fight against the COVID-19 and its cooperation and international solidarity policy.

On Twitter, Rodriguez Parrilla also highlighted the NAM's permanent rejection of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the US government against nations such as Cuba, which hinder the correct confrontation to the pandemic.

Besides, the Caribbean foreign minister referred to the cooperation and exchange policy fostered by this international organization, especially during 2020, a complex period for the world due to the affectations caused by the mentioned disease.

Last October, Rodriguez Parrilla defended within the group the legitimate right of member countries to development, restricted by the imposition of unilateral coercive measures.

The sanctions occur when the global economic situation is serious and is worsened by the devastating effects of the COVID-19, whose greatest impact affects the underdeveloped world, he said during the bloc's ministerial meeting, convened at the United Nations, Cubaminrex reported.

In this regard, last May 4, during the Virtual Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement "United against COVID-19", Cuban president Miguel Diaz-Canel expressed that NAM has demonstrated its relevance in the current situation, "since it promotes global unity, solidarity and international cooperation", according to Cubadebate.
