HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 23 (ACN) Roger Lopez, Cuban ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark, presented the strategy of the Caribbean country to mobilize the capacities of the national health system in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a meeting with representatives of the Communist Party of Denmark and with Sven Erick Simonsen, president of the Danish-Cuban Friendship Association, Lopez detailed the work in containing the spread of the current pandemic in Cuban soil, where the first cases were detected last March.
He explained that the success achieved is based on the strengths of the national health system, which has a network of primary care for the population, together with the potential of science, technology and innovation in the present stage.
Regarding Cuba's work with its vaccine candidate Soberana 01, the diplomat highlighted that it is the first in Latin America and that it currently occupies the 30th position in the select group of specific vaccines that, worldwide, achieved approval to start clinical trials.
He also referred to the support of the Cuban medical brigades in the confrontation with COVID-19 in various regions of the world and to the international Campaign for the nomination of the Henry Reeve Contingent to the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Cuban ambassador also pointed out that the intensification of the cruel economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States against Cuba has caused enormous limitations to his country in the current circumstances.
