Diaz-Canel ratify support to family of Cuban doctors kidnapped in Kenya

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17 (ACN) President Miguel Diaz-Canel ratified the Cuban Government's support for the family of Dr. Landy Rodriguez, who was kidnapped in Kenya.

On his Twitter account, Diaz-Canel noted that on the occasion of Rodriguez´s birthday, he spoke with the doctor's mother, Marta Hernandez, and his wife, Leticia Diaz, to whom he expressed his support and affection.

Landy Rodriguez, a surgeon from Villa Clara province, was kidnapped in April 2019, along with Dr. Assel Herrera, a general practitioner from Las Tunas, as they were going to the hospital where they worked.

Since then, Cuban authorities have been in touch with their Kenyan peers to bring them back home.

In late August, Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez talked with his Kenyan counterpart, Raychelle Awour Omamo, about the situation of the Cuban physicians.

On July 31, Cuban Public Health Minister Jose Angel Portal had a similar conversation with his Kenya peer, Mutahi Kagwe. Since the very first moment, Cuba established communication channels with Kenyan authorities to deal with that issue, while officials from the African country keep the doctors' families updated about their situation.
