HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 16 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez, Cuban Minister of Foreign Affairs, confirmed on Twitter today the nation's participation in the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly, main body of the UN that will meet on this occasion virtually.
"Cuba will participate in the 75th session of the UNGA, which will meet virtually because of the COVID-19. As every year, we will defend the principles of multilateralism, international law and the role of the UN in the construction of a democratic, just and equitable order, "he tweeted.
Every September, the member states of the body meet at its headquarters in New York to hold the corresponding session; this time the debate will focus on the conception of mechanisms to mitigate the spread of the disease, which is the cause of the pandemic.
According to the United Nations web portal, Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General, noted that this year will be crucial in the history of the organization due to the multiple challenges it faces, especially due to the repercussions of the new coronavirus.
He added that nations must join forces to respond to the impact of COVID-19 by strengthening health systems and supporting the development and equitable distribution of treatments and vaccines.
