Cuba reiterates its commitment to UNESCO's workHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 19 (acn) The Cuban Permanent Delegation to UNESCO reiterated the support of the Caribbean island to the work done by that organization to promote education and culture.

That position was stated by Cuban deputy and intellectual Abel Prieto in a meeting with Nada Al-Nashif, UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Science, according to a statement reproduced by Prensa Latina news agency.
The former Minister of Culture and presidential advisor on these issues and Al-Nashif addressed initiatives such as the UNESCO Jose Marti International Award, created in 1994 at the proposal of Cuba, to promote peace, solidarity and human rights.
Regarding the prize that bears the name of the hero, they reminded its most recent winner, Cuban intellectual Roberto Fernandez Retamar, who died only two months ago.
They also analyzed priorities such as the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, programs of peace culture and social transformations, the role of cities in promoting sustainable development goals and defending cultural and social rights.
On the other hand, the UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Social and Human Science praised the work of the Caribbean island and its good relations with the organization.
