Havana, Sep 9 (ACN) Cuban teachers, members of the Felix Varela collaboration brigade, are participating since today in the start of the school year in the Bahamas, Prensa Latina news agency reported.
Jose Reinel Garcia, representative of the Cuban Ministry of Education in that nation, ratified the altruistic commitment of the Cuban collaborators, who have contributed with their efforts to the opening of the school year in a large part of the Bahamian islands.
He stressed that although the greatest hits were on Abaco and Gran Bahamas, in Nassau and other places, strong winds and heavy downpoors caused damage and Cuban staff quickly focused on recovery.
The 55 Cuban educational collaborators also support work in communities with the people, restoring roofs, windows, rubble collection and cleaning.
For the past 16 years, Cuban professionals have been assisting in the education of children, teenagers and young people in the Bahamas, thanks to a MoU between the two ministries of education.
More than 60 Cuban collaborators work in the Bahamas, including educators, pharmacists, Electromedicine engineers and representatives of the tourist agency Habanatur and the nickel trading company.
