Peru wins International Badminton Tournament in Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 18 (acn) Peru stood out in the 20th Giraldilla International Badminton Tournament, which concluded last Sunday at Havana´s Sports City Coliseum, by winning three gold medals.

The Peruvians earned the titles in all the double events (women´s, men´s and mixed) in a contest where the Cuban squad reached one silver and five bronze medals.

The local men's duo made up by Leodannis Martinez and Angel Herrera starred the best domestic performance when ranking second, only surpassed in the final by Jose Guevara and Daniel La Torre, who beat them 2-0 (28-26 and 21-18).

In the women´s doubles, Daniela Macias and Danica Nishimura joined efforts to defeat 2-0 (21-9 and 21-11) in the battle for the title their countrywomen Ines Lucia Castillo and Paula La Torre.

In addition, in the mixed couples, Macias and Mario Cuba won also 2-0 (21-12 and 21-19) over their teammates Guevara and Ines Lucia Castillo.

Meanwhile, Welsh Jordan Hart and Mexican Job Castillo were the winners of the women´s and men´s individual events, in that order.

The 20th Giraldilla International Badminton Tournament awarded 1,700 points for the world ranking to the winners of each of the five convened events.
