Cuba attends meeting of UNESCO's International Hydrological ProgrammeHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 23 (ACN) The Head of the National Secretariat of Hydrographic Basins and Chairman of the National Committee of the International Hydrological Programme (IHP) of the Institute of Water Resources, Carlos Alberto Luaces Socarrás, participated on behalf of Cuba in the Bureau of the Intergovernmental Council of IHP, which took place at UNESCO Headquarters during the past week, according to the Cubaminrex website.

The meeting considered the proposal to update the Statutes and Rules of Procedure of the Council, the evaluation of the 8th Phase of IHP, as well as the preparations for the UNESCO International Conference on Water, announced for 13 and 14 May next.

The occasion also served to discuss the challenges related to water resources to ensure the conservation, protection, development, planning, management and efficient use of water in all its dimensions, as well as the follow-up to the preparation for the 9th World Water Forum, highlighted the note published by Cubaminrex.

In this cycle of work, Cuba occupies the Vice-Presidency for the Latin America and the Caribbean region, and has been recognized for its commitment and professionalism in attending to these international problems.

As part of the actions carried out from the sector, Cubaminrex said, the Island will host next March, the Third International CUBAGUA 2019 Meeting, which will be dedicated to the topic of Knowledge and Technology and will be a space for the exchange of knowledge, the dissemination of updated information and the promotion of technologies and products associated with water management and use.
