Cuba's support for Palestine's presidency in G77 plus ChinaHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 21 (ACN) Palestine can count on Cuba's full support in its chairmanship of the Group of 77 (G77) plus China, a bloc that today faces multiple challenges in issues such as sustainable development.

From New York, Prensa Latina reports that this was the expression of Cuba's alternate permanent representative to the UN, Ana Silvia Rodríguez, who stressed that with this leadership, the group once again demanded activism and an outstanding role for Palestine as a full member.
We are convinced that under the Palestinian presidency, the G77 plus China will continue to strengthen its role in promoting and defending the interests of the countries of the South," stressed the Cuban ambassador.
Likewise, Rodríguez referred to the complex processes that the bloc will face in 2019, among them: the follow-up of the implementation and fulfillment of the commitments of Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development, the Addis Ababa Action Agenda and the Paris Agreement.
Other challenges include financing for development, negotiations on South-South cooperation, the implementation of commitments derived from the UN reform process, as well as the growing challenges facing multilateralism and the United Nations, he added.
The Cuban representative acknowledged Egypt's role during its presidency of the G77 plus China last year: its professionalism, rigour, transparency and proven diplomatic skill were key to achievements in 2018, she said.
In the G77 plus China is represented by more than half of the world's population and two-thirds of UN member states, Rodriguez said.
On January 15, Palestine assumed the chairmanship of that group, a leadership that will be historic, according to U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres.
