Morales heads the Cuban delegation that attends the Vietnamese president's funeral rites, Granma newspaper reports this Friday.

The Cuban delegation paid its respects on behalf of the Communist Party, the Government and the Cuban people in the face of this invaluable loss for the Asian nation. In addition, they expressed their condolences to the President's relatives and paid tribute to his memory through a floral offering and incense, as dictated by the tradition of that brother country.

For his part, Phu Trong expressed his gratitude for the support of the Island at this difficult time and recalled the work of Tran Dai Quang to strengthen bilateral ties between the two countries, work for which he was invested with the José Martí Order in November 2016 in Havana.

In the meeting they recalled Phu Trong's visit to the Caribbean nation last March, as well as the success of the program recently completed in Vietnam by Cuba's first vice president, Salvador Valdes Mesa, on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Fidel Castro's first visit to that Asian country.

The Cuban delegation also included Emilio Lozada García, Director General of Bilateral Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Lianys Torres Rivera, Cuba's ambassador to Hanoi.

In addition, Morales had a meeting with the Cuban medical brigade that carries out its work in hospitals of the capital of that brother country.
