Cuba sends messages of condolence to Vietnamese authorities and peopleHAVANA, Cuba, Sep 24 (ACN) The First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba, Army General Raúl Castro, and the President of the Councils of State and Ministers, Miguel Díaz-Canel, sent messages of condolences to the authorities and people of Vietnam on the death last Friday of President Tran Dai Quang.

In a letter to Nguyen Phu Trong, secretary general of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Raul expressed his deep sorrow at the passing of Cuba's close friend and fervent promoter of the historic relations of friendship and cooperation that unite us.

Diaz-Canel wrote to Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc that in these moments of pain for the Vietnamese people, "I remember the personal contribution of comrade Quang to the promotion of ties of friendship and cooperation between our countries.

According to Prensa Latina, the president of the National Assembly of People's Power, Esteban Lazo, sent to Hanoi a message of regret and, before beginning a work session, he and his colleagues from the Cuban legislature kept a minute of silence in memory of Tran Dai Quang.

Numerous Cuban institutions also issued statements reflecting their sorrow at the death of the Vietnamese dignitary.

Throughout this weekend and until Monday the 24th, the Cuban Council of State, meanwhile, decreed official mourning (September 22 and 23) and national mourning (September 24) in the wake of the unhappy event.
