Tropical storm Beryl becomes the first hurricane of the seasonHAVANA, Cuba, Jul 6 (ACN) Tropical Storm Beryl continued to intensify in the early hours of Friday morning over Central Atlantic waters, becoming the first hurricane of the season, category 1 on the Saffir Simpson scale.

The Meteorological Institute reports in its Notice Three of Tropical Cyclone that the strength of its maximum sustained winds has increased to 120 kilometers per hour (75 mph) with higher gusts and the central pressure has dropped to 995 hectoPascal,

At six o'clock this morning, the center of Hurricane Beryl was estimated at 10.6 degrees North latitude and 44.9 degrees West longitude, a position that places it 1565 kilometers southeast of Barbados Island, the southern group of the Lesser Antilles.

Beryl is moving close to the west, with a speed of 22 kilometers per hour (14 mph) and it is predicted that in the next 24 to 48 hours it will lean to the northwest, with little change in intensity and with a tendency to dissipate the weekend before reaching the Lesser Antilles, where conditions in the upper levels are not favorable for its development.

The next tropical cyclone warning will be issued at six o'clock this afternoon.
