HAVANA, Cuba, March 5 (acn) Heads of State with the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas (ALBA) are gathering Monday in Caracas to reiterate their support of Venezuela, amidst current attacks against the sovereignty of that sister Latin American nation.
The forum, taking place at the Miraflores Presidential Palace will also pay tribute to the legacy of Venezuela's historic leader Hugo Chavez Frias.
The Summit will back the right of the Venezuelan people to self-determination in the face of aggressive escalations particularly by the United States against upcoming Venezuelan presidential elections slated for May 20.
Participants will also reject the decision to withdraw the invitation to the Venezuelan government to take part at the 8th Summit of the Americas to be held next month in Lima, Peru. Such decision runs contrary to the objectives of the UN Charter and the proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, as signed in Havana in 2014.
According to Telesur TV, Bolivian head of state Evo Morales arrived early on Monday in Caracas while other dignitaries are expected to arrive on Venezuelan soil for the summit.
