Cuba Denounced at the United Nations the Unilateral Actions of the USHAVANA, Cuba, Dec 21 (acn) Cuba's permanent representative to the United Nations, Anayansi Rodriguez Camejo said on Thursday in New York, that the US government's intention in modifying the historic statute of Jerusalem violates the legitimate interests of the Palestinian people and the Arab and Islamic nations, according to a report on the Cubaminrex website.

The Cuban ambassador spoke at the 10th extraordinary emergency sessions of the UN General Assembly on the subject "Illegal Israeli actions in occupied Eastern Jerusalem and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories", where the diplomat expressed the island's position before a situation that has had serious repercussion in the efforts of peace in the world.

She exposed the serious concern and rejection for the unilateral declaration of US President of the city of Jerusalem as capital of Israel constituting a profound and flagrant violation of the UN Charter, International Law and the UN Resolutions on the situation in that region.

The Cuban diplomat at the UN said that the Caribbean island calls on the Security Council to comply with its responsibility in maintaining peace and international security, adopt the necessary decisions and demand Israel to immediately end the occupation of the Palestinian territories and its aggressive policies and colonizing practices. In addition to complying with Resolutions approved by the world body on the Middle East including the Palestinian issue.

She also ratified that Cuba will continue supporting a broad, just and long-lasting solution for the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of a solution of the two States that will allow the Palestinian people the right to self-determination and dispose of an independent and sovereign State with its capital in Eastern Jerusalem and borders prior to 1967.

In her speech, Rodriguez Camejo said that Cuba subscribed to the declaration drafted by Venezuela on behalf of the Movement of Non Aligned Countries and supported the declarations carried out by turkey on behalf of the Islamic Cooperation Organization and the delegation from Yemen in the name of the Arab Group.

Concluding her speech, the Cuban diplomat to the UN affirmed that in consequence with the country's historic position of principles on the issue, Cuba joins the coauthors of the draft resolution contained in document A/ES-10/L-22 entitled "Statute of Jerusalem" and will vote in favor of the document.
