HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 30 (ACN) The Workers' Confederation of Cuba (CTC) and the General Confederation of Workers (CGT) of France signed a protocol of intent, aimed at promoting union cooperation in areas of mutual interest between both organizations.

According to the information published today by the Trabajadores newspaper, Ulises Guilarte de Nacimiento, general secretary of the CTC, and Phillipe Martínez, head of the CTG, signed the agreement at the headquarters of the International Economic Association (AEI) Arcos Bouygues Bâtiment International, located in Varadero.

The document foresees the execution of joint union action projects in companies with foreign investment, French or from other sources, training courses and exchange of information, among other actions.

Guilarte De Nacimiento expressed the commitment to expand and diversify, at the national or regional federations, the proposed purposes and in defense of the legitimate rights of employees.

The leader of the CGT, second in number of affiliates in France, thanked the invitation to collaborate with the CTC on very specific issues and appreciated his presence in the Antillean nation as a possibility to establish alliances.

Phillipe Martínez and the delegation that accompanied him learned about the operation of the union bureau in the AEI Arcos and the peculiarities of the Cuban Construction Masters movement, an initiative that emerged precisely in France.

He was also interested in the safety and health measures that have contributed to reducing work accidents in the sector of construction, and the negotiation process prior to the signing of the collective bargaining agreement.

Víctor Dos Santos, president of the AEI Arcos-BBI, detailed results of that French company since his arrival in Cuba in 1999, and the subsequent association, in 2000, with Arcos, of the Ministry of Construction.

Dos Santos said that they are currently executing 23 projects in Cuba, located between Holguín and Havana, as part of the mission to build hotels for the development of the Cuban tourist infrastructure, including the Grand Hotel Kempinski Manzana, inaugurated this year .
