HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 25 (acn) The Cuban youth that attended the 19 th World Festival of Youth and Students in the Russian city of Sochi thanked on Wednesday in Havana, on behalf of their comrades, the support and solidarity offered by the Russian authorities during the event.
Susely Morfa Gonzalez, member of the Council of State and First Secretary of the National Committee of the Young Communist League, (UJC) expressed gratitude to Russian officials for their support of Cuba, second largest delegation to the festival.
She said that Cuba's delegation was the best representation of the island's youth, so much as human quality, values, work and educational performance and stressed that during the festival's program, they participated in over 35 exchange spaces between student and youth organizations.
The youth leader explained that the Cuban delegation also included prestigious intellectuals and scientists that served as panel moderators and exchanged on the achievements of the Revolution.
We had the possibility of showing a solidarity, humane and internationalist Cuba constituting a reference of resistance and restless struggle for its sovereignty, she said.
She referred to the respect and love towards the leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro and the Heroic Guerilla, Ernesto Che Guevara, to which they dedicated the youth festival.
Niubis Garcia, National President of the Federation of Secondary School Students commented that they not only received "news on the natural beauty of Sochi and its people, but also a message of love and affection".
She added that relations between Russia and Cuba continue through the true path of sisterhood and mutual respect.
She pointed out that the festival will remain in the memory of all. They spoke and offered conferences on Cuba's role in different scenarios; and considered that the Anti-Imperialist Tribunal was a space where several nations raised their voices against imperialism and hegemonic policies that hurt the world.
According to Raul Palmero, National President of the University Student Federation, the Cuban delegation was always full of joy, the other colleagues would stop them in the halls, take pictures with them and would shout, Cuba, Cuba!
He added that the group was admired by the great civic culture of the Russian people, cleanliness and beauty of its infrastructure.
Serguey Reshchikov, Councilor Minister of the Russian embassy in Havana said that Cuba had a special place in the youth movements. Cuba, he said, represents an example of resistance to US hegemony.
The youth are the leaders of the future; that is why we should unite the progressive efforts to obtain the true world democracy, he said.
He characterized the Cuban delegation as well prepared and disciplined and was happy that they had complied with their expectations in the cultural, political and social matter.
