Cuba and Djibouti Reaffirm Friendship Ties

Havana, Cuba, Jun 22 (ACN) Cuban friendship and solidarity ties with the Republic of Djibouti was reaffirmed on Thursday in Havana during an activity celebrating the 40th anniversary of the African nation's independence.

During the activity held at the headquarters of the Institute of Friendship with the Peoples, (ICAP), Djibouti's ambassador to Cuba, Nasser Mohamed Ousbo highlighted the aid of the Caribbean nation in the health sector with the signing of a broad cooperation accord in the health and pharmaceutical areas in 2016.

The diplomat said that 88 health specialists, 6 high level trainers and 5 specialists from the agricultural and water resources sectors make up the Cuban Mission in Djibouti.

The diplomat recalled the formation of 110 graduate students in Cuba of these 63 doctors in addition to another 19 that continues their studies in the Caribbean island.

Other ideas exposed by Mohamed Ousbo were the African nation's condemnation of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on Cuba by the US and the return of the illegally occupied US Naval Base in Guantanamo.

During the activity, with the assistance of representatives of the Cuban Communist Party and the Foreign Ministry, both sides recalled that Cuba and Djibouti established diplomatic relations in 1998.

Located in Africa's northeastern region, Djibouti is a small country that shares its borders with Eritrea to the north, Ethiopia to the west and south and Somalia to its southeast.
