Cuba is an example of human rights for the world, says Colombian economist

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 12 (acn) Cuba is today an example not only in Latin American, but global, of human rights, the facilitator of the peace process between the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP by its Spanish acronym), Henry Acosta, said in Quito, Ecuador.

Regarding Human Rights Day, Colombian Acosta, who attended the opening of the Plaza de la Memoria inaugurated by the District Attorney´s General Office of Ecuador in Quito, told Prensa Latina that he hopes all countries were as the Caribbean archipelago in the defense of their citizens.

In his opinion, when talking about human rights in Cuba you can mention education, health, safety, housing, which are key and prioritized lines by the government.

On US violations against Cuba for more than 50 years, he said: "Sadly, when everything seemed to be loosening, Mr. Trump arrives and it seems that things will be more complicated."

Washington´s actions against Cuba are an outrage, like many of those committed by the American empire, only that in that case it has been greater and for longer, he stated.

He then recalled that not only the Caribbean country has suffered the excesses of the empire and mentioned the atomic bombs launched in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japan, in August 1945.

In a message for the commemoration of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by UN in 1948, Acosta expressed the hope that "Human Rights Day will become the 365 days of those rights."
