HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 2 (acn) With the motivation of becoming Cuba´s fourth largest trading partner globally, with an exchange of more than 700 million dollars, Canada celebrated its National Day on the second day of the 34th International Fair of Havana (FIHAV 2016 by its Spanish acronym).
At the opening of the Canadian pavilion, Alexis Trujillo, first deputy minister of Cuba´s Ministry of Tourism, stressed Canada remains the main source market of tourists to Cuba since 1998.
With the presence of Patrick Parisot, Canadian ambassador to Havana, Trujillo said that in 2015 that country set the record of 1 300 000 visitors to the Caribbean island in a year, amount which represented about 40 percent of the total of arrivals to Cuba.
The official said that there have been various promotional and marketing actions in order to continue increasing the arrivals of Canadian vacationers to the country.
According to Trujillo, Canada is also a major investor, with presence in Cuban economy in areas such as energy and mining, food and beverage, and in the paper industry.
Yesterday it was also opened the Portugal Pavilion, occasion on which Miguel Frasquilho, president of the Portuguese Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade, and Roberto Berrier, director of ProCuba, signed an agreement to promote investment of the European nation in Cuba, as well as bilateral trade and the development of training activities.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Portugal´s president, made an official visit to Cuba on October accompanied by representatives from more than 20 companies who expressed during a bilateral business forum their interest in new business opportunities opened in Cuba.
Until November 4th, more than 3 500 exhibitors from 73 countries will exhibit their goods and services in FIHAV 2016, which was ratified as the most important business event of Cuba and the Caribbean, and one of the most significant in Latin America.
