Gloria La Riva: Cuba's Example is Needed Today More than Ever

HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 4 (acn) Today, more than ever, the example of Cuba is needed, said Gloria La Riva, coordinator of the Committee of Solidarity with Cuba in the United States, referring to the growing social inequality in the world and specifically in the northern country.

I live in San Francisco, California, U.S.A., considered one of the richest cities in the world; however, it is estimated that more than six thousand people are living on the streets, demonstrating the enormous gap between rich and poor, she told ACN in an exclusive interview during a recent visit to the province of Sancti Spiritus.
In that regard, she reiterated that the world needs the example of Cuba. I personally appreciated, she said, that the Cuban nation has been a star to follow, for its history of resistance and the struggle of its heroic people in defense of the country and Socialism.
We need more than ever that the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the U.S. on the island is lifted, so we will continue supporting the Cuban Revolution in this struggle, pointed out the prominent political activist.
She specified that despite the defamatory campaigns distorting Cuban reality, she has always felt, since she was young, great respect for Fidel and the revolutionary project started in 1959.
In college I acquired real awareness of the dangers of capitalism, and it was then that my socialist conviction and my admiration for Cuba debuted and matured, she said.
If there is a people who can face up with enemy propaganda and continue to be a beacon in revolutionary struggle, it is the Cuban people, asserted La Riva.
I always think about the immeasurable courage of Fidel Castro, for defending this small country, for his ideas, for believing in a better world and fighting for it, she concluded.
