Cuban Health Voluntary Workers Arrive in South Africa

Cuban Health Voluntary Workers Arrive in South AfricaHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 2 (acn) A new group of 29 Cuban health voluntary workers arrived in the province of Gauteng, with which the number of these professionals in South Africa increased today to more than 400, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

The physicians, mostly specialists in Family Medicine, currently carry out training to then go to work in their respective communities.
Dr. Victor Figueroa, head of the medical brigade in Gauteng, said the group will strengthen the strategy of primary health care in the province.
He explained that the mother-child mortality indicator still shows undesirable values in general in South Africa and particularly in Gauteng, so help reverse these indicators will be part of the work they will undertake.
The doctor stressed the political will of the government of the African National Congress (ANC) to improve the access of citizens to healthcare. "The country is immersed for several years now in reforming its health system," he emphasized.
