Cuban Parliament President meets official agenda in Russia

HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 23 (acn) Cuban Parliament president Esteban Lazo is meeting an official three-day agenda in Russia, which has thus far included talks on Wednesday with the President of the Russian Federation Council or High Chamber of Parliament, Valentina Matvienko, and several party leaders.

The two parliamentarians addressed the excellent relations between their legislative bodies and their countries and stressed the positive unfolding of bilateral trade and economic relations. They also recalled the recent visits to Russia by Cuba´s first vice-president Miguel Diaz-Canel and government vice-president Ricardo Cabrisas.

Lazo invited Matvienko to pay an official visit to Cuba next year.

Lazo previously met with representatives of the Russian Communist Party and United Russia at the lower chamber of Parliament, with whom he addressed the strengthening of relations with the Cuban Communist Party.

Esteban Lazo also met with the Cubans at the island´s State Mission in Russia and briefed them on the process of improvement of local government bodies. Mission members told Lazo about different economic projects being implemented in Russia as part of Russia´s participation in the Cuban Economic Development Plan till 2020.

The top Cuban parliamentarian arrived Tuesday evening in Moscow to meet an official invitation by his counterparts Serguei Naryshkin, President of the lower Chamber of Parliament or Duma and by Valentina Matvienko.
