Seventh ACS Summit: A Great Moment for St. Martin

Seventh ACS Summit: A Great Moment for St. MartinHAVANA, Cuba, May 31 (acn) It is a great moment for Saint Martin, because its incorporation to the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) will be decided, said today Aline Hanson, president of the Territorial Collectivity Overseas, who arrived here to participate in the 7th Summit of the organization.

Representing the government of France as a state associated with the ACS, Hanson asserted it is an honor to be in Cuba, a nation with which San Martin maintains cultural exchanges and projects related to the economy and natural disasters.
Maria Esther Reus, Cuba's Minister of Justice, received the distinguished visitor on Tuesday at the Jose Marti International Airport, accompanied by officials of the Cuban Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
AEC rules establish that their associated states have the right to take part in discussions and vote at meetings of the Ministerial Council and Special Committees on matters that affect them directly and are within their constitutional competence.
The website of the ACS explains that under the Treaty of Concordia, signed in March 1648, San Martin is a territory of France and occupies 53 square kilometers of an island, the remaining space of which, known as Sint Maarten, corresponds to the Netherlands.
The arrival of delegations participating in the Summit began on Monday with the arrival of Marie-Luce Penchard, Vice President of the Regional Council of Guadeloupe, according to the website of the Cuban Foreign Ministry.
