HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 14 (acn) The Nicaraguan government has asked Cuba, Mexico and El Salvador to send experts to study the seismic swarm registered in the western side of the country, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.
The coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council, Rosario Murillo, specified that they're talking about the specialists who were in that country in April, 2014, when a 6.2-magnitude earthquake and its aftershocks shook Managua and neighboring cities.
In the case of the Salvadoran professionals, they were expected to arrive in that Latin American country on Monday night.
We are concerned because the phenomenon is increasing, as well as the magnitude of earthquakes, asserted Murillo, who pointed out the need to further study this phenomenon to arrive at scientific conclusions.
The words of the coordinator of the Communication and Citizenship Council are based on studies by the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (INETER), which registered about 150 earthquakes near the municipality of El Sauce, in the western department of Leon, from Friday until noon Monday.
According to the latest update by INETER, the strongest of the recent tremors reached a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale and occurred early this morning at a depth of 15.4 kilometers.
One of the strategies to support families affected by these earthquakes is that the Government sends materials to build temporary shelters while damaged houses are repaired or new ones are built.
Hundreds of food parcels and medical teams to ensure care and emotional support to people afflicted by this natural phenomenon were also sent to the area.
