Havana, Feb 6 (ACN) The 6th round of peace talks between the Colombian government and the National Liberation Army ELN guerrilla group closed Tuesday in Havana with the signing by both sides of a six-month extension of the ceasefire previously reached last year in this city capital.
Another outcome of the talks with the ELN compromise to stop the retention of persons with economic aims, according to the Cuban primetime TV newscast.
Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez stressed the fact that the ceasefire accord was reached in Havana, the same venue for the first steps towards the ongoing peace process for Colombia and just a few days ahead of marking the 10th year of the declaration of Latin America and The Caribbean a Zone of Peace.
The two sides expressed agreement about the possibility to set up a fund destined to back the implementation of accords on the participation of the Colombian society in the peace process and the humanitarian relief for critical areas.
The delegations announced an upcoming round of talks in April, in Caracas, Venezuela.
