Havana, Oct 19 (ACN) The successful dialog led by representatives of the Venezuelan government with members of the country’s opposition led to the partial and limited lifting of US coercive measures against the South American nation, a result praised by Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez on Wednesday.
On his X account, the Cuban government official wrote that the US coercive measures should have never been enforced and should be fully lifted in a permanent and unconditional way.
Such measures violate the principles of International Law and damage the welfare of Venezuelans, he said.
On October 18 Washington lifted sanctions against Venezuela at least for six months.
A communique by the US Department of the Treasury announced the approval of general licenses authorizing transactions involving Venezuela’s oil and gas as well as the Gold sectors .
Washington’s decision responds to accords reach in Barbados between the Venezuelan government and the opposition representatives in areas like the promotion of political rights and electoral guarantees, and vital rights for the nation.
The first one establishes the processes towards the presidential election to take place in the second half of 2024.
The accords also guarantee international observation of the vote, the drawing p of an equitable electoral timetable, the promotion of audits and the update of the electoral register including Venezuelans living abroad.
