Spanish university praises Cuban local development Project

HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 12 (ACN) Maria Dolores Garcia Mascarell, president of the Catholic University of San Antonio de Murcia (UCAM by its Spanish acronym), Spain, praised in Havana the Local Development Project La Moneda Cubana, located in the Historic Center of Havana.

During a meeting with students and professors of that project at the institution's headquarters, the visitor highlighted the high level of training the students receive in the specialties of cooking, salon, bar and gastronomy, as well as the solidarity actions in the community, among them, the attention to vulnerable people and voluntary blood donations.

She also highlighted the training and the promotion of the values of this school "which protects -she said- total inclusion and has carried out the principle of volunteering", which is why last July 10 they created there the La Moneda Solidaria Movement dedicated to helping the elderly and the environment, among others.

Since its creation in 2011, La Moneda Cubana has graduated more than 2,000 young people and UCAM is one of the institutions in charge of graduating the students trained in this important project in Cuba, said Angel Aguilera Castillo, professor and director of the school.

Garcia Mascarell and Aguilera Castillo signed an agreement between both institutions for the realization of the 1st edition of a higher university course in economic, financial and marketing management, which will last six months and will be taught by professors of high professional and scientific level.

On Monday, the president of the UCAM also participated in a ceremony at the San Geronimo College in Havana, where homage was paid to Dr. Eusebio Leal, on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the birth of "one of the greatest men of all times and his relationship with this project was always very special," Aguilera Castillo stated.

On behalf of UCAM, Maria Dolores Garcia Mascarell presented Javier Leal (son of the renowned historian) with a commemorative plaque for his remarkable contributions and immense legacy to present and future generations.
