Cuba congratulates Muslims for Ramadan

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 23 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, extended on Twitter his fraternal wishes and congratulations to the Muslims of Cuba and the world on the occasion of the beginning of the month of Ramadan.

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which is based on the rotations of the moon around the earth; it began this Thursday and will end next Friday, April 21.

During this time Muslims fast between sunrise and sunset, in addition to meditation and prayer.

The name Ramadan comes from the Arabic root ar-ramad, which means scorching heat.

Muslims believe that in 610 AD, the angel Gabriel appeared to the Prophet Muhammad and revealed the Qur'an, the holy book of Islam, and it is believed that this revelation, Laylat Al Qadar (or the night of power), occurred during Ramadan.
