World Conference for World Balance highlights value of solidarity

 HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 27 (ACN) Uniting people on the basis of solidarity and support for the causes of the most disadvantaged and minorities focused the debate of the participants at the 5th World Conference for World Balance, which takes place in Havana until Saturday.

The morning session began with the intervention of Fernando Gonzalez Llort, president of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP by its Spanish acronym), who thanked those present for attending the forum, which means a new demonstration of the support that the Revolution has in the face of the growing aggressions of the empire, he said.

He stressed the importance of solidarity in the current world to combat inequalities and promote the construction of societies based on respect and justice.

The panel was enhanced by the participation of the Puerto Rican independence leader, Oscar Lopez Rivera, with whom Gonzalez Llort shared a cell for four years in a prison in Indiana, United States.

The Puerto Rican patriot, who was unjustly imprisoned for almost 36 years until he was released by former U.S. President Barack Obama, aroused the applause of the room when he affirmed that Puerto Rico is not for sale.

He described U.S. prisons as the worst in the world and exemplified the harsh living conditions in those structures that, in his opinion, criminalize human beings, an issue also addressed by Amnesty International.

In the presentations of the Cuban participants, it transcended that since the beginning of the revolutionary process, solidarity with other governments and nations was expressed, fostered by Marti's ideology and the actions of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.

In addition to advocating for the independence of Puerto Rico, the intellectuals and activists supported the end of the prolonged injustice suffered by the Palestinian population at the hands of Israel.
