Mexico to administer Cuban anti-COVID 19 vaccine to over 12 years of age

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 20 (ACN) Mexico will soon begin to administer the Cuban anti-COVID-19 Abdala vaccine to its population over 12 years of age, following its evaluation by the Federal Commission for Protection against Health Risks (Copefris by its Spanish acronym).

The director of Digital Government of Mexico City, Eduardo Clark, assured that both the regulatory authority of his country and the New Molecules Committee have proven the 92 % efficacy of the immunogen to prevent serious cases of COVID-19.

Abdala, the first vaccine against this disease developed in Latin America, will be used in Mexico as a booster and for those delayed in the vaccination process, said the executive during an interview published in the local magazine Proceso.

Clark promised to share the documents that endorse the efficacy of the drug from the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology of Cuba, and pointed out that it is very much in line with those that have been used in the city.

According to the statement, the Mexican Ministry of Health reported that in late November it received the first shipment of the Abdala vaccine, with 4,092,500 doses for application to over 12 year olds and those who are stragglers.
