HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 15 (ACN) At the G-77 + China Ministerial Conference, Cuban foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla called today for the unity of developing countries in the face of the challenges posed by a multidimensional systemic crisis that is having a serious and tragic impact on the southern part of the planet.
Speaking at the meeting in New York, Rodriguez Parrilla stressed that the countries of the Group are suffering the most from climate change, poverty, foreign debt, pandemics, fluctuations in global value chains, food insecurity and energy instability.
He stated that in view of the obvious injustices that continue affecting the countries of the South with particular harshness, it is time to move forward in a common front.
The developing world, he added, has leading academics and intellectuals, and has contributed internationally recognized principles that today continue to guide actions at the multilateral level.
We bring together 134 countries representing 80 percent of the world's population with valuable natural and human resources. Let us be aware of this strength and act on behalf of our people, he continued.
Rodriguez Parrilla urged the members of the G-77 to remember the primary objective that brought them together almost 60 years ago: to become standard bearers for the rights of the South in the face of an international environment that hinders the progress of peoples.
He stressed that developing countries must continue to speak with one voice and close ranks in the face of outside interests that seek to divide, weaken their principles and undermine their ideals of peace, prosperity and justice.
Our future and that of generations to come depends on the unity of the Group of 77 (G-77).
