Caricom Plans More Trade with Cuba

 Havana, Nov 18 (ACN) The ambassador of the Caribbean nation of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Elsworth I. A John expressed the Caribbean Community’s willingness to expand trade with Cuba.

Speaking at a ceremony marking Caribbean National Day at Havana’s International Trade Fair, the diplomat said the exhibit allows the exchange with all nations which have business relations with Cuba and stressed that the fair maintains it vitality despite two years of recess due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Caribbean countries are small, but united they may be very important for Cuba, said the diplomat.

Meanwhile, the ambassador of The Bahamas and chair of the Caribbean Community in Cuba Elliston Rahming stressed the bonds uniting the countries of this region and expressed his wish that more Caribbean exhibitors come to the fair next year.

Cuban first deputy Foreign Trade and Investment minister Ana Teresita Gonzalez said that the Caribbean region is an example of the peoples’ action when they feel identified with common culture and tradition.

The pandemic increased inequalities around the world and in the case of Cuba the impact of the COVID-19 was joined by the reinforcement of the over-60-year US economic, commercial and financial blockade of the island nation said Gonzalez and went on to express her gratitude to all regional nations who keep stands against the US policy.

This year we will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations between Cuba and Caricom, which translates into a greater compromise for Cuba.

Havana’s International Trade Fair wound up its official program on Friday after five days of exchange between Cuban companies and entrepreneurs from over 60 nations.
