Cubans advance to quarterfinals in 2019 Santo Domingo Badminton Open

http://radiorebelde.cu/images/images/2019/deportes/badminton-oslenis.jpgHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 24 (acn) Cubans Osleni Guerrero and Leodannis Martinez advanced to quarterfinals of the 10th Santo Domingo Badminton Open, running until next October 26 in the Dominican Republic.

Guerrero, runner up and bronze medalist at the 2011 and 2015 Pan Am Games respectively, reached this stage in the men´s single event after beating 2-0 (21-5 and 21-15) Dominican Anderson Taveras; while Martinez had a tougher rival in American Timothy Lam whom he defeated 2-1 (17-21, 21-19 and 21-16), according to the official website of the contest.
Previously, both Cubans debuted with 2-0 victories over the local players Miguel Martinez and Esmerlin Ortiz, in that order.
Today it is scheduled a resting day for the men´s single event, but Cubans will not rest as they are also enrolled in the men´s doubles where they will face the local duet made up by Elvis Adames and Anthony Ortiz.
In this latter specialty, Guerrero and Martinez gave Cuba their only medal in the badminton event of the Lima 2019 Pan American Games, where they ranked third.
