HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 17 (acn) Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler Oscar Pino became silver medalist of the World Senior Wrestling Championship running in the city of Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, until next Sunday.
Pino, twice universal bronze medalist, could not climb to the top of the podium by losing 1-3 in the final of the 130 kilos division to Turkish Riza Kayaalp, who conquered his fourth title at this level.
The Caribbean athlete, who was recently Pan Am runner up in Lima 2019 but in the freestyle event, also earned a ticket for Cuba for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and despite losing the final, had an outstanding performance in this contest as he beat major contenders such as Estonian Heiki Nabi, twice global monarch and London 2012 Olympic silver medalist.
The bronze medals of this division went to Nabi and Georgian Iakob Kajaia.
