Cuban Borrero earns the crown in World Senior Wrestling Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 16 (acn) Cuban Greco-Roman wrestler Ismael Borrero won the title today in the World Senior Wrestling Championship that runs in the city of Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan, until next Sunday.

Borrero, Las Vegas 2015 world monarch and Rio 2016 Olympic champion, completed an extraordinary performance by achieving six wins in the 67 kilograms division, to give Cuba its first crown in this strong tournament.
In the final, he beat 3-1 Russian Artem Surkov, Budapest 2018 universal king, and thus won his second crown in World Wrestling Championships and also earned a ticket to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Oscar Pino (130 kg), Daniel Gregorich (87) and Gabriel Rosillo (97) are the three other Cuban Greco-Roman wrestlers involved in this major contest.
Pino will be in the final tomorrow, while Gregorich lost in quarterfinals to Uzbek Rustam Assakalov, Las Vegas 2015 runner-up; and the young Rosillo debuted in WCs by reaching the round of 16.
Turkish three-time global monarch Riza Kayaalp will be in the final against Pino, whose performance has been outstanding as he already got an Olympic berth and previously defeated major contenders such as Estonian Heiki Nabi, twice universal champion and London 2012 Olympic silver medalist.
