Cuban Despaigne blasts his 33rd homer of the season in Japanese Professional Baseball

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 12 (acn) Cuban Alfredo Despaigne batted a solo homer in the 1-4 away loss of his team, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, to the Saitama Seibu Lions in the Pacific League (PL) of the Japanese Professional Baseball (NPB).

This was Despaigne ´s 33rd homerun of the season in a match in which he hit 2 for 4, thus raising his batting average to .266 and his RBI total to 81 and now ranks second and seventh seats in HRs and RBIs, respectively, in the PL.
Cuban lefty setup man Livan Moinelo was also involved in the match where he managed to pitch a scoreless inning despite allowing one hit and granting two walks, thus decreasing his ERA to 1.58.
Now the Lions head the standings in the NPB Pacific League with balance of 72 wins, 57 losses and one draw, half a game ahead of the Hawks (70-56-4) and six over the Chiba Lotte Marines (66-63-4).
The top three teams in each league proceed to the Climax Series, NPB's postseason system.
The Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, squad which includes the also Cubans Yurisbel Gracial and Oscar Colas, are the current NPB champions.
