Cuba advance to semifinals of the 2019 Men's NORCECA Continental Championship

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 6 (acn) Cuba beat Puerto Rico and advanced to semifinals of the 2019 Men's NORCECA Continental Championship at the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada.

Cubans won 3-0 (25-21, 25-22 and 28-26) with highlight to wing spiker Miguel Lopez, who scored 15 points, and middle blockers Roamy Alonso (14) and Roberlandy Simon (13).
Puerto Rican Maurice Torres was the top scorer of the match with 17 units.
The Cuban side led the stats of blocking 12 per 4 as well as the serving (8-3), although their rivals were better in attack (43-39), according to the official website of the contest
In the other quarterfinal game, Mexico defeated 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 17-25, 25-17) the Dominican Republic.
Cuba will face Canada today at 6 pm, while the other semifinal match will be between United States and Mexico.
The winner qualifies for next January's NORCECA Olympic Continental qualifier, but if a local team wins the tournament, then the second-place will qualify because both the U.S. women's and men's squads have already qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
