HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 19 (acn) Cuban discus throwers Yaime Perez and Denia Caballero finished first and second, in that order, at the eleventh stop of the 2019 IAAF Diamond League, based at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, Great Britain.
Perez, recent winner of the title at the 2019 Pan American Games of Lima, Peru, and leader of the world ranking with 69.39 meters won this time with mark of 64.87m.
Thus she added eight points and now heads the contest with 23 units, closely followed by her compatriot Caballero (22), who this time ranked second with record of 64.59m.
The classification towards the final of the women´s discus throw event of the 2019 Diamond League has in third place to Croatian Sandra Perkovic, two-time Olympic and world champion, who amounts 16 points after adding the six units she achieved yesterday, according to IAAF official website.
Perkovic finished third in Birmingham with 63.80 meters, and although she is still far from her best results, she will be the main opponent of both Cuban athletes in this contest and the World Athletics Championship with stage in Doha, Qatar, late September.
Back to the Cubans, this was the third time this season in the Diamond League that they make the 1-2, which demonstrates their great stability and rivalry.
In 2018, Perez conquered the gem to dethrone Perkovic, usual owner of the prize in recent years.
