HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 12 (acn) Cuba will face today the host team of Mexico, in the first day of the 2019 FIVB Volleyball Women´s U20 World Championship, running until next July 21 in the cities of Aguascalientes and Leon.
According to the website of the contest, Cuba was included in Group A where they will also face Italy and the United States, in that order, in Aguascalientes.
The Caribbean island attends the tournament with the same team that won the 5th NORCECA Pan American Cup last May, in Lima, Peru, where there was highlight to Ailama Cese, MVP and best scorer of that competition , and Ivy May Vila, leader in reception and service.
Group B (Leon) includes the squads of China, Peru, Poland and Egypt, while Russia, Serbia, Turkey and Argentina appear in Pool C; and Japan, Rwanda, Brazil and Dominican Republic are the teams of Pool D.
In the previous edition of 2017, based in Cordoba, Argentina; the medalists were China (gold), Russia (silver) and Japan (bronze).
Cuba, with two gold and one silver, appears in the seventh seat of the historic medal table which is led by Brazil (6-5-2), escorted by Russia (3-0-1) and China (3-3- 6).
