HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 5 (acn) Cuba lost 0-8 in the third game of the friendly match against the US university squad held at Durham Bull Athletic Park, in North carolina, USA.
Cubans only batted three hits against four pitchers and the win went to Nick Frasso, who pitched four scoreless innings where he allowed two singles.
2B Nick Loftin, 2 for 2, 1B Spencer Torkelson (2 for 4) and RF Colton Cowser (2 for 4) highlighted for the winning side, while 1B Yodanis Samon, SS Luis E. Aloma and C Yunior Ibarra batted Cuba´s three singles.
Cuban starting pitcher Yariel Rodriguez took the loss when surrendering 4 earned runs and four hits, with 2 strikeouts and 3 walks, in five innings, but relievers Yudiel Rodriguez, Pablo Guillen and Rafael Sanchez didn´t do it well either as they all allowed at least one run each.
The Caribbean squad has only scored thrice in 27 innings, with 18 hits, after these three games of the match, and only one Cuban batter (Samon) has positive average of .545, six hits in 11 at-bats, including a homer and two RBIs.
This was Cuba´s third loss, so Americans already won the 5-game series and the fourth game will take place today at the National Training Complex of Cary, while the last one will be tomorrow in at the Durham Bull Athletic Park.
This also was the fourth consecutive defeat of the Cuban team, which is training for the baseball tournament of the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games, as in addition to these three games against Americans, we must add the last one of their series against the New Jersey Jackals, in the Can-Am League.
