Cuban Silva to compete in pole vault in Lausanne

Cuban Silva to compete in pole vault in LausanneHAVANA, Cuba, Jul 4 (ACN) Cuban pole vaulter Yarisley Silva, London 2012 Olympic runner-up, will compete today in the eighth stop of the 2019 IAAF Diamond League, based in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Silva, also world champion in Beijing 2015, will have a very tough rival in Greek Katerina Stefanidi, Rio 2016 Olympic monarch and London 2017 universal queen; Russian Anzhelika Sidorova, current European indoor champion; in addition to Canadian Alysha Newman, American Katie Nageotte and Venezuelan Robeilys Peinado, three athletes who could be her opponents at the Lima 2019 Pan Am Games, where she will go in search of her third consecutive crown.
In her most recent raid in the Diamond League, Silva finished sixth at the stop of Rabat, Morocco, where she scored her season best with 4.67 meters, same record achieved by four other opponents, including Nageotte.
That result earned her three points and now amounts eight units as she won another five points in the fourth leg series of Rome, Italy.
In the Italian capital, Silva jumped 4.66m and ranked fourth, so she is still far from her most outstanding records, in a sports race in which she has a personal best of 4.91 meters.
