HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 17 (acn) Cuba achieved its third win in the 2019 Men´s Softball World Championship which takes place in cities of the Czech Republic until June 23.
The Cuban team beat 7-2 Mexico this time and the win went to Alain Roman, who allowed only one run and one hit in four innings, with two strikeouts and same amount of walks, while Jonathan Muñoz took the loss.
Alberto Hernandez pitched one frame and surrendered a solo homer by Ismael Peña, while Gusber Plutín pitched two scoreless innings allowing two hits.
Cuba´s best batters were Juan Carlos Rodriguez, who hit 2 for 3, with a double, two runs scored and one run batted in; Roger Rosete 1 for 1, two walks and RBI; and Yesander Rodriguez with two RBIs.
Now the Caribbean island has balance of three wins as they previously beat 11-2 Philippines and 6-0 Botswana, but lost 0-2 to New Zealand, current leader of the world ranking.
So far, Cuba appear tied with New Zealand in second seat of Group A, behind Japan (4-0) and ahead of Argentina (2-1), Czech Republic (1-2), Botswana (1-3), Mexico (1-3) and Philippines (0-4).
Argentina will be Cuba´s rival tomorrow and they will finish the preliminary stage for Group A against Japan on June 19 and the host team the following day.
The best four teams of each Pool advance to quarterfinals.
