HAVANA, Cuba, May 23 (acn) Cuba achieved its second win in the 5 th Girls´ U18 Pan American Volleyball Cup taking place in Durango, Mexico, which grants two berths to the World cup to be held this tear in Egypt.
In match of Pool B, the Cuban side won 3-0 (25-11, 25-12 and 25-19) over Guatemala with highlight to Derizalett Madan, top scorer of the match with 13 points, who was supported by Dayana Martinez (9) and Claudia Tarin (7) and today they will face Puerto Rico, according to the official website of the contest.
The Dominican Republic also reached its second victory without loss in Pool A by beating 3-0 (25-14, 25-5 and 25-15) Honduras.
In yesterday´s other two games, Puerto Rico also maintained its winning pace in Pool B when beating 3-2 (26-24, 14-25, 15-25, 27-25 and 15-13) Peru, while Mexico also repeated victory, this time 3-1 (25-12, 15-25, 25-12 and 25-12) over Chile in Group A.
In addition to the match between the undefeated Cubans and Puerto Ricans in Pool B, today´s program also includes the games Guatemala - Peru, while the games of Pool A are Dominican Republic-Mexico and Chile-Honduras.
The leaders of each group will advance directly to semifinals while the best second and third teams of each pool qualify to the quarterfinals.
According to regulations, the top team from NORCECA Confederation will earn an automatic ticket to the world championship (WC) with the second one going to the top ranked team regardless its confederation of origin.
The United States and Canada are NORCECA teams already qualified to the WC as winners and runners-up of last year Continental Championship held in Tegucigalpa, Honduras while Argentina, Brazil and Peru are the South American teams with berths secured to Egypt.
