Spanish GM Anton takes the lead in Capablanca Chess MemorialHAVANA, Cuba, May 13 (acn) The win by Spanish David Anton and the loss of Ukrainian Vassily Ivanchuk heat up the Elite group of the 54th Capablanca Memorial Chess Tournament, when there is only one day shy for the closing of the contest that takes place at Havana´s Habana Libre hotel.

The Iberian took advantage of the evident bad moment of Indian Baskaran Adhiban to achieve a victory that took him to six points in nine games, and his good fortune was multiplied when American Samuel Sevian beat Ivanchuk, who seemed to have the scepter almost in his pocket.
Sevian became the only executioner until the moment of the record holder of these events, after defeating him after 48 moves of a Sicilian defense.
After these outcomes, Ivanchuk, who can become champion for the eighth time of this tournament, appears as leader tied with Anton with 6 units each, while Sevian escorts them with 5.5 points and will be the opponent tomorrow of Cuban Yuri Gonzalez.
The latter drew with his countryman Carlos Albornoz in 40 moves of a Spanish opening and they amount three points each on bottom of the standings.
In the final round, Anton will face Albornoz and Ivanchuk will clash with Adhiban.
Meanwhile, the top of the Open group changed hands after Cuban Omar Almeida lost to the also local Arnaldo Fernandez and now ranks eighth.
The new leaders are the locals Isan Ortiz, Michel Alejandro Diaz, William Hernandez and Fernandez, all will seven units.
