Cuban beach volleyball duos get gold and silver in Cayman IslandsHAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (acn) The Cuban duos of Leila Martinez-Maylen Delis and Sergio Gonzalez-Luis Enrique Reyes won gold and silver medals, respectively, at the second stop of the 2019 North American, Central American and Caribbean (NORCECA) Beach Volleyball Tour, with headquarters in Cayman Islands.

According to the contest's website, Martinez and Delis, also champions in the first stop of Aguscalientes, Mexico, defeated in the final 2-0 (21-18 and 21-19) Americans Brittany Hochevar and Carly Wopat.
The Cuban women's duet advanced to the final by defeating Mexico's Zaira Orellana and Martha Revuelta also 2-0 (21-15 and 21-13).
Meanwhile, Gonzalez and Reyes, bronze medalists on Mexican soil, were this time runners-up when losing 0-2 (18-21 and 14-21) to Mexicans Juan Virgen-Lombardo Ontiveros.
In semifinals, the Cuban men's pair beat 2-1 (21-19, 19-21 and 21-12) Americans Benjamin Vaught and Spencer Sauter.
With these results, Martinez and Delis, and Gonzalez and Reyes earned 200 and 180 points for the NORCECA ranking, in that order.
The main goal of the Cuban couples is to continue training for the Pan American Games of Lima, Peru, scheduled to take place from next July 26 to August 11.
Cuba ranked second in each sex of the beach volleyball events in the previous Pan Am Games of Toronto 2015.
