HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (acn) Cuba won the silver medal in the mixed event of the 2019 Pan-American Judo Championships, held in Lima, Peru.
According to the website of the contest, Brazil beat Cuba 4-3 in a hard-fought match whose decision needed a tiebreak bout where Cuban Idalis Ortiz lost to South American Beatriz Souza.
Souza (+78 kg) beat Ortiz, Olympic and world champion, twice as she previously did it in the regular match that had ended in a 3-3 draw.
Brazil´s other winners in the mixed event were the also woman Maria Portela (70), who beat Cuban Maylin Del Toro, and man Rafael Silva, victimizer of Andy Granda (+90).
Meanwhile, the Cuban wins went to men Magdiel Estrada (73) and Ivan Silva (90) and woman Anailis Dorvigne (57), who defeated David Lima, Rafael Maicedo and Rafaela Silva, respectively.
Cuba finished third in the individual event with three gold, two silver and six bronze medals, booty to which we must add the silver reached in the mixed event to also rank third in the general medal table, which was topped by Brazil (5-8-3) and Canada (4-2-4).
