HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 28 (acn) Cubans Arlenis Sierra and Heidy Praderas will compete today in the Driedaagse Brugge-De Panne (Three Days of Bruges-De Panne), classic race of the UCI Women´s World Tour.
The Astana Women's Team, captained by Sierra, expressed in a press release the confidence in that athlete who finished fourth last year in this contest when the event started to be raced in a single day.
The Kazakh-Italian multinational squad will have as next challenge another Belgian race, the Gent-Wevelgem, to take place on March 31st.
According to the note, Sierra and Praderas, along with Mexican Lizbeth Salazar and Ukrainian Olga Shekel will participate in both races, while Kazakhs Amiliya Iskakova and Natalya Saifutdinova will run in the Bruges-De Panne and Italian Elena Pirrone and Kazakh Makhabbat Umutzhanova will substitute these last two cyclists in the Gent-Wevelgem event.
The first of the races will cover 134.4 km, mainly over a flat terrain; while the second event will be a 136.9 km race over mountains to be scaled even twice.
Sierra, 26, won the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race last January and ranked third in the first stage of the Santos Women Tour and the Towards Zero Race, all in Australia, while Praderas, who is only 21, is gaining experience in top-class events after debuting last year in professional cycling with this same club.
